Welcome to the third Mixed Media Monthly Challenge - Stencils and Pastes!
We are thrilled to have you with us for our third challenge!! We are so lucky that the awesome store Eclectic Paperie is sponsoring our challenge this month. They are generously offering a $25 gift card for our Random Winner!!
Here's a little more about the Eclectic Paperie:
"We create and craft because we're seeking to express ourselves, to capture some of that inner fire and put it out into the world, and through that expression we unite with others. The spirit of eclectic Paperie grows out of this principle; we're committed to not only delivering a wide range of paper crafting products for mixed media, stamping, and scrapbooking but we support and encourage the greater importance of providing education, inspiration, and creative growth. Acquiring your craft materials from us becomes just another flowing step in the process of creation - we want to not only supply the raw materials of your creativity but to actually encourage and participate in sharing your creative acts. We view you not only as a customer, but as a partner."
Hello, Lynn K. here to welcome you to the
August Mixed Media Monthly Challenge. For this month I’m challenging you to use
thick mediums or pastes through stencils to add texture to your art. You can
use modeling paste, gel mediums, super heavy gesso, texture paste, embossing
paste or any thick medium that will add dimension to your work.
I
started with a 6x6 canvas and used a stencil and modeling paste to create a
dimensional, textured background. The stencil I used is one of my favorites by
The Crafter’s Workshop. It’s called “Art Is” and it measures 6x6 – perfect for
my canvas. I scraped modeling paste through the stencil with a palette knife –
the thicker you apply the modeling paste the more dimension you achieve and the
longer it takes to dry!
Next I applied a
combination of blue and white paints keeping the shading lighter towards the
middle. The paint enhances the stenciled background.
I
then painted on some circles and lines and applied some green paint with a
credit card.
I stamped a bird
image onto watercolor paper and painted her with bright, cheery colors. I then
glued her to a branch I created from corrugated cardboard and attached it to
the canvas.
And here is my finished canvas
We are also excited to introduce our August Guest Designer - Karen Crossen!! Karen is an amazing mixed media artist who is also on the Eclectic Paperie Design Team.
Guest Designer - Karen Crossen
Hi! My name is Karen Crossen and I live just outside Atlanta Georgia with my husband and 3 girls!! I absolutely love creating mixed media art and experimenting with (and buying) art supplies!! There aren't too many days that I don't have some paint or glue on my fingers or clothes. Just a couple of years ago, I would never have thought as myself as an artist or even thought I had an artistic bone in my body. But after finding mixed media and the freedom to create what I want and how I want - I realized how much I enjoy creating!
I have been super lucky to work on the Faber-Castell Design, Memory, Craft Guest Design Team, Linnie Blooms Design team and of course, the wonderful Eclectic Paperie Team!! I hope you enjoy my beach bird - when I saw him at the beach this summer, I just knew I had to get him down on canvas!!
Now more inspiration from our amazing Design Team!
We don't have many rules, but ask that you do follow the ones we have!

ReplyDeleteLoved this challenge! I have made a mixed media canvas inspired by Leanne Bishop and Finnabair. I used several Tim Holtz stencils and used mod podge+gesso (quite a thick paste) as a medium.

ReplyDeleteTour is always exciting and interesting. If it is night tour, it is more enjoyable. Night tour in new york city is really magical . The high line, a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s west side is mind blowing. New york’s night harbor cruise, with awesome views of New york’s unforgettable skyline as well as opportunities to take up-clore and personal photos of status of liberty removes the monotonous of life. Anyone can see the beauty of Chinatown, soho and Green village by the luxurious coach. The tour will continue to gran central station and Rockefeller center which is exceptional for you. At last one can enjoy the sight of 50th street of New york city at night, you can’t believe your eyes. So everyone should go on a tour like New-york city in any age.
