Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #5 - Ribbons, Twine, & Fibers

Welcome to the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #5- Ribbons, Twine, and Fibers!!

We are so happy to have May Arts Ribbon as our sponsor this month. The are generously offering our random winner 3 spools of fall inspired ribbons!!

May Arts Ribbon was founded in the early 1980’s in Riverside, Connecticut. The original products were high-end silk flowers imported from Taiwan, which were decorated using quality ribbons. The decorative ribbons proved so popular among customers that the business gradually evolved into a dedicated ribbon wholesaler.

As a family-owned and operated business, May Arts began a long-standing tradition of quality, affordability and exceptional customer service. We are dedicated to carrying on this same tradition by offering high quality products at competitive prices. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff is always happy to answer your questions or to assist you in placing your order.

May Arts carries a wide selection of quality ribbons to choose from; such as grosgrain, silk, satin, burlap and a variety of prints and patterns. All inventory is held in stock, so we can ship orders out right away—typically the same day.

A ribbony canvas

Hello Mixed Media Monthly Challenge peeps!  I’m so excited to be the feature for this month’s challenge and to show you some cool ways to incorporate ribbon into your projects.
The challenge for this month is ribbon and I used a bunch of different awesome May Arts Ribbon to add texture and interest to my piece.

To start I added glued to the tops of some “inkable” ribbon strips and adhered them to a canvas.
I wanted to add color and shine to my background and what better way to do this then with spray ink.  It really is important to use the right kind of ribbon for this step.  Here I used May Art’s ¾ inch canvas because it holds the ink and will not dull the colors.

To add texture and even more shine I tucked some May Art’s 3/8 inch metallic/velvet under the inked ribbon.

The last this I did was to embellish.  I used May Art’s netting ribbon to anchor my focal point.  Then using some of my favorite Burlap String to add the details.

So reach for your ribbon to add some texture and interest this month.  I can’t wait to see all the awesome mixed media ribbony goodness you all make!
